Volunteers were searching the area, looking for clues into the disappearance of Nate Hendrickson, 24, a University of Houston student who has been missing since November 30. Authorities are not yet making an official connection between Hendrickson's disappearance and the body.
The body was found in a wooded area. Equusearch volunteers have been searching the area since last weekend. Hendrickson's vehicle was found last Saturday at the West Oaks Mall, not far from the park.
Police are not identifying the body as that of the missing student for now. It is too early to tell. Detectives do say the body found Friday has been there for several weeks.
The area has been disturbed by animals. However, a backpack and gun were found near the body. Investigators say it is possible that the man found in the park may have committed suicide.
"Through my homicide experience, in the years that I've been doing this, all indications would be that, other than someone doing this to themselves, it doesn't appear as though there's any other sort of foul play," said Sgt. Brian Harris with the HPD Homicide division.
